Hotels were something I never considered myself working in, until I happened to have a job in college at the front desk of one. Being young and eager, I decided from that point this would be my focus, and it did well for me. The mindset I was in had me getting rapidly promoted, working as a manager for nearly 2 years while I was still in college. I was able to secure a management position for a luxury hotel company after graduating in 2016. I also graduated with almost $100,000 in student loan debt.
After working for nearly 2 years post graduation, making very little money, working 50-60-70 hour work weeks, I knew there had to be a better way. It wasn't worth it to live a lifestyle I couldn't even enjoy. That's when I took matters into my own hands, and quit my career in the hotel industry. I took a 9 to 5 office job, and I loved it. I still work there today! But my main source of happiness from switching career paths, was the work life balance I now had. I was able to leave everyday at 5pm, no questions asked. This is when I knew I would have time to make additional income.
